VANILLAMORPHOSIS
experiential short | 4K, 360° dome projection | 2016
creative roles: director | cinematographer | editor
What would you like and how would you like it? A sugary reflection on wanting, softly served with compulsion and sprinkles. Objects of desire thaw and freeze into various states of appeal.
The project explores the implications of desire, impulse and power with the timeless symbol of an ice cream cone. Viewers are given handheld mirrored ice cream cones, allowing them to see a condensed reflection of the content playing on the dome above. Viewers are thus placed between the hyperbolic and the contained. Imagery features ice cream melting and reforming into various states of appeal, slowly incorporating other objects of desire.
The project premiered in 2016 as a 360° immersive piece at the Vortex Dome in Los Angeles, and it showed as a theatrical piece the same year in the Bijou Theater in Valencia, CA. The 2D content was an official selection for Cinephilia: Filth and Fun at the Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles in 2017.
Performers: Morgan McGlothan, Z Yun Chen, Ingrid
